Marie McCormick Hedgpeth, DNP, RN, Director of Nursing Programs at Robeson Community College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing education.
With 24 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Hedgpeth has excelled in the field of nursing. Currently serving as the interim practical nursing director at Robeson Community College since 2023, she combines her administrative duties with teaching responsibilities, reflecting her dedication to nursing education. Prior to this role, she served as a nursing instructor at Robeson Community College and as a registered nurse at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, UNC Health.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Hedgpeth pursued an extensive education in nursing. She earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Aspen University in 2023. She also holds a Master of Science in health administration, a Master of Science in nursing, and a Bachelor of Science in nursing, all from the University of Phoenix.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Hedgpeth has been actively involved in civic activities. She has participated in Relay For Life events organized by the American Cancer Society, Inc. She has also contributed to the nursing profession through her involvement with various professional organizations. She has been a member of the Board of Directors for the National Council for Practical Nurse Educators since 2012 and is also a member of the National League for Nursing, the American Nurses Association and the North Carolina Nurses Association.
In addition to her primary vocation, Ms. Hedgpeth has been recognized for her contributions to nursing education. She was named Educator of the Year by the National Council for Practical Nurse Educators in 2015. Her areas of expertise include cardiac care, nursing education, medical-surgical nursing and intensive care unit nursing. She attributes her success to great mentorship and leadership, which have guided her throughout her career.
Ms. Hedgpeth became involved in the nursing profession due to her personal experiences as a caregiver for family members. These experiences inspired her to enter nursing school and pursue a career dedicated to improving patient care and outcomes. One of her most notable achievements is graduating with her doctorate in nursing practice, which has enabled her to make a significant difference in patients’ safety and health care outcomes.
Looking ahead, Ms. Hedgpeth is working toward becoming a certified nurse educator, a goal she hopes to achieve within the next year. She has been in the field of education since 2010 and is currently collaborating with F.A. Davis on developing a curriculum. She continues to stay committed to her professional growth and contributions to the nursing field.
In her personal life, Ms. Hedgpeth enjoys going to the mountains, reading, and traveling. Her dedication to service and community engagement is paralleled by her receipt of numerous accolades and recognitions throughout her career. She remains a valuable asset to any academic or healthcare setting and looks forward to continuing to make a positive impact on nursing education and patient care.
