Luciano J. Iorizzo, published author and retired professor emeritus at the State University of New York at Oswego, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in higher education.

With 30 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Iorizzo has excelled at State University of New York at Oswego as a professor of history for 30 years and emeritus professor. He has garnered a stellar reputation as chairman of the Democrat Party in Oswego County. He pursued his studies at Brooklyn College subsequent to his coursework at St. Francis College. He completed his academic efforts at Syracuse University, where he earned a PhD.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Iorizzo has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He found success as the author of “You Are Lucky, Luciano: The Story of Luciano J. Iorizzo” in 2023. He edited “Italian POWs Speak Out at Last: Italian Prisoners of War Break Their Silence,” published by Teneo Press, and contributed to the Encyclopedia of Italian Americans published by Garland Publishing. He contributed to the Veterans History Project Collection and the American Folklife Center. Moreover, Dr. Iorizzo has published books on Italian American immigration, a biography of Al Capone, a lengthy article on organized crime and mafia in “The Encyclopedia of Italian Americans,” and articles on Italian American entrepreneurs sourced from Dun and Bradstreet records grading their businesses.

In addition to his primary vocation, Dr. Iorizzo remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. The former president of the Oswego County Historical Association, he served as president and founding member of the American Italian Historical Association and past chair of the Public Justice Department. In light of his impressive undertakings, he has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was admitted to the Faculty Hall of Fame, State University of New York at Oswego in 2013. In the immediate future, he is considering venturing into the publishing industry, including the possibility of writing an autobiography about his relationship with his wife.
