Michael A. Buratovich, professor of biochemistry at Spring Arbor University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in higher education.

With 30 years of experience to his credit, Prof. Buratovich has excelled as a professor of biochemistry and nursing instructor at Spring Arbor University since 1999. As a professor, he has taught biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, genes and speciation, human physiology, and pharmacology. He directed student research projects in fruit fly development, antimicrobial agents, and fruit fly repellents and attractants. As a nursing instructor, he taught medical courses, nursing courses, and basic science courses in pharmacology and microbiology. He began his career as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Pennsylvania from 1997 to 1999.

Before embarking on his professional path, Prof. Buratovich pursued an education at the University of California, Davis, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in microbiology in 1984 and a master’s degree in 1986. He concluded his studies at the University of California, Irvine, graduating with a PhD in cell and developmental biology in 1994. In addition to his primary vocation, he remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society for Microbiology, the National Center for Science Education, and BioLogos.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Prof. Buratovich has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He contributed to Jackson Michigan Chorale as a member and a performer at the “Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols” Christmas Concert in 2023. He served as an editor with Salem Press, working on encyclopedias, multiple editions of the McGill Medical Guide, and articles on women’s health, pain management, diabetes, sports medicine, occupational therapy, and cancer. Moreover, he contributed to additional articles, encyclopedias, and professional journals in developmental biology, drosophila information service, recent patents on anti-cancer discovery, perspectives on science and the Christian faith, and more.

In the immediate future, Prof. Buratovich intends to continue working as long as he can before retiring. He envisions spending his time taking nature walks and inspiring children to explore and appreciate the natural world. He also plans to remain involved in the Bible Quizzing Ministry of The Arbor Church and devote more time to traveling and visiting interesting places.
