Prior to her current position as superintendent at Queen Anne’s County Public Schools, she was active as the superintendent of Caroline County Public Schools from 2017 to 2021 and served as interim superintendent from 2016 to 2017. Previously, she served as assistant superintendent of instruction at Caroline County Public Schools from 2015 to 2016.
Ms. Saelens began her career as a classroom teacher, demonstrating a passion for educating and empowering students. Before embarking on her professional path, she pursued an education at Salisbury University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in educational administration and supervision. She continued her academic efforts by obtaining a Doctor of Education in innovation and leadership from Wilmington University in 2007. Following these accomplishments, she completed various certifications and professional development programs to enhance her skills and knowledge in educational leadership.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Saelens has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She contributed to civic organizations such as Rotary International and Hope Ministries. Additionally, she also worked as a member of AASA, The School Superintendents Association, and served as past president of the Public Schools Superintendents’ Association of Maryland. In light of her impressive undertakings, she has accrued several accolades throughout her career. She was recognized as superintendent of the year by AASA, The School Superintendents Association, and was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of “Women to Watch” for her outstanding contributions to the field of education.
