Jacqueline Kirby Wilkins, PhD, Professor at The Ohio State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in community-based education.

With 30 years of experience to her credit, Dr. Wilkins has excelled as a professor at The Ohio State University since 2024, a position in which she is responsible for attracting, developing, and retaining the next generation of extension professionals who can help improve local communities. In the years prior, she was active with Ohio State University Extension as an associate professor, the regional director of operations for Northeast Ohio, the associate chair of programs, the director of operations, the interim director, the associate dean, the director, and the chair between 2012 and 2023. She had previously served as the owner of IntelliSolve Inc. from 2002 to 2009 and the assistant professor of family and consumer sciences at Ashland University from 2009 to 2012. Dr. Wilkins began her career as an assistant professor, extension associate, and state parenting specialist in the department of human development and family science at The Ohio State University between 1994 and 2002.

Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Wilkins pursued an education at Ohio Dominican University, from which she earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, summa cum laude, in 1990. Initially deciding to seek further education in abnormal psychology, her awareness of prevention education inspired her to continue her academic efforts at The Ohio State University, obtaining a Master of Science in human development and family relations, with honors, prior to graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in human development and family science, with honors, in 2000. In light of her impressive undertakings, Dr. Wilkins has accrued several accolades throughout her career, including the Visionary Leadership Award from JCEP/ESP in 2014 and 2015, the Mid-career Distinguished Service Award from JCEP/ESPin 2019, the Ruby Distinguished Service Award for the North Central Region from ESP Leadership in 2020, and recognition among the Top 50 Women Business Leaders in Ohio by The Women We Admire in 2023.

Dr. Wilkins attributes her success to her aunt, Bernadette Mack, a strong female role model who was one of the first ones in her family to complete college and garner a graduate degree. Among the many highlights of her career, she is incredibly proud of amplifying the awareness of prevention education, for which she has seen an impressive return on investment while witnessing the development of colleagues and employees within critical positions in social sciences. In the coming years, Dr. Wilkins hopes to continue leaning into the extension scholarship, shining a light on the transformational nature of her work, and extending awareness for the impact of bringing her university-level knowledge to the local community.
