His credentials include a Doctor of Education from the Business University of Costa Rica in 2002, a Master of Education from Georgia Southern University in 1977, and a Bachelor of Science in French with a minor in English from Savannah State College, now Savannah State University, in 1968, along with a master’s degree from the joint program of Savannah State University and Armstrong State University in 1979. He became the sole member of his immediate family to achieve a degree. Despite initial doubts about majoring in French, he persisted, ultimately rising to the position of elementary school principal with the SCCPSS in 2003.

Throughout his career, Dr. King has relied on his unyielding perseverance and the support he received to overcome challenges, and he attributes his success to his unwavering determination and resilience. A significant milestone in his career was obtaining his doctorate later in his career and reaching the pinnacle of becoming a school principal.
