With 22 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Zafar has excelled in a variety of positions at Kennesaw State University since 2010, including assistant professor, associate professor, assistant department chair, professor, and fintech program director. He began his career as a research associate II at UT Health San Antonio from 2002 to 2003. He was active as a programmer at Eastman Kodak Company from 2004 to 2005. He contributed at the University of Texas at San Antonio as a research assistant from 2005 to 2007 and an instructor from 2007 to 2010. He found success as a cybersecurity instructor at Emory University from 2018 to 2022.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Zafar pursued an education at St. Mary’s University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in computer science, minoring in math and philosophy, in 2003. He continued his academic efforts at the Rochester Institute of Technology, obtaining a Master of Science in information technology in 2005. He concluded his studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio, graduating with a PhD in business administration with an emphasis in information technology in 2010. He holds certifications from the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, the EC-Council, and the PCI Security Standards Council, LLC.
In addition to his primary vocation, Dr. Zafar remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was a member of the Association for Information Systems, ACM, Inc., the Technology Association of Georgia, and the Information Systems Audit and Control Association. In light of his impressive undertakings, he has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was presented with the Distinguished Graduate Faculty Award from Kennesaw State University and the Distinguished Service Award.
Dr. Zafar’s most noteworthy accomplishment was establishing the Financial Technology Program at Kennesaw State University. The field of fintech is relatively new and there are no undergraduate degree programs that cater to this area. Therefore, it was imperative to work directly with the industry to develop a relevant and practical curriculum. He considers it a privilege to be part of a field that is still in its infancy and where there is still much to be discovered and explored.
