Dr. Courington commenced her academic pursuit with a Bachelor of Science in physical health education and teaching from Kentucky State University, followed by a master’s degree in special education and teaching at the same institution. She furthered her education with a master’s degree in public health education and promotion from Benedictine University. She culminated her academic journey with a PhD in education from Bellarmine University in 2021.

Her professional path began as a teacher in the Jefferson County Public Schools, where she served from 2008 to 2019. Following this, she assumed roles at Bellarmine University, starting as an adjunct professor from 2019 to 2022, progressing to a postdoctoral fellowship until 2022, and currently holds a position as a teacher at the Bellarmine University School of Education. Alongside her teaching responsibilities, she has engaged as an Amgen Community STEM Partnership ambassador for the Amgen Biotech Experience since 2022.

Dr. Courington’s dedication is evident through her diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace certificate from USF Corporate Training and Professional Education. She holds teaching certifications in physical and health education from the Kentucky Department of Education and has credentials in health education and promotion, as well as health management and policy from Benedictine University. Dr. Courington’s civic engagement spans various platforms, including her active role on Bellarmine University’s president’s advisory board since 2020. Her dedication extends to multiple community organizations, such as the Black Caucus Community and the University of Louisville, as an intern and as a health educator for several organizations. She has also been engaged as an associate board member for Home of the Innocents from 2019 to 2022 and a board member for Louisville Girls Leadership since 2018.

A defining highlight of Dr. Courington’s career is her transition from K12 education to teaching future educators. Her aim is to support students by empowering future teachers to create inclusive and nurturing environments. Looking ahead, she is driven to turn her dissertation into a young adult book, “If I Could Dream Big,” offering historical context while advocating for student well-being. She envisions contributing to the evolving education landscape, acknowledging the pandemic’s impact on students, and striving to provide empathetic support for their educational journey.
