Manuel Crespin, Teacher and Coach at Albuquerque Public Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in special education.
With more than 30 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Crespin has excelled as a teacher and coach with Albuquerque Public Schools since 1998. During this time, he has been additionally active with the aforementioned school district as the president from 1999 to 2001, a representative for the instructional council from 1999 to 2002, the president of EEO from 2006 to 2008, an ambassador for Newspapers in Education from 2001 to 2004 and 2012 to 2013, and a coordinator of chess, lego board game, tutoring and flag football clubs from 2014 to 2022. Likewise, he served as an afterschool/mid-school cluster initiative coordinator from 2001 to 2005 and from 2014 to 2022. Outside of the classroom, his coaching endeavors extended to his efforts as a junior varsity and varsity baseball and football coach at West Mesa High School, Albuquerque High School, and Atrisco Heritage Academy High School. Mr. Crespin began his career as a transportation coordinator with the Pecos River Learning Center from 1990 to 1994 before a short tenure working at New Mexico Highlands University.
To support his professional ambitions, Mr. Crespin pursued an education at New Mexico Highlands University on a partial scholarship, eventually graduating with a bachelor’s degree in special education and teaching secondary social studies in 1998. He has attributed his success to the daily cultivation of positive habits under the guidance of his fourth-grade teacher, Ms. Carnes, as well as the support of his parents, his wife and children over the years. Initially drawn to teaching positions in physical education, history and social studies, he was inspired to enter the field of special education after attending a class of his friend’s wife, who had already been working in the field. Among the many accomplishments of his career, Mr. Crespin is most proud of providing education and opportunities to students who might not have otherwise had access to his special education program, which spares them the need to learn solely from hindsight, in addition to his dedication to the “Special Ed in the Red” initiative, an Albuquerque Public Schools program designed to offer limited special education services in person and in small groups to the most severely impacted and vulnerable students with disabilities, garnering him recognition by the New Mexico State Senate in 2021.
