She began her involvement with the New York City Department of Education between 2011 and 2021 in a variety of roles including model teacher of science, grade team leader, academy leader, peer collaborative teacher, co-dean of students and school culture, and education district administrator of the Committee on Special Education. She started her career at EMSL Analytical, Inc as a lead lab analyst from 2006 to 2007. She worked as a 7th grade teacher for the Archdiocese of New York from 2007 to 2011. She garnered a stellar reputation as a participant in the Bronx Transformational Leadership Collaborative internship at the New Teacher Center from 2019 to 2021.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Ruiz pursued an education at Union College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in environmental studies in 2006. She continued her academic efforts at the School of Education at the City College of New York, obtaining a Master of Science in middle school science education in 2011. She concluded her studies at the College of Saint Rose, graduating with a Master of Science in educational leadership and administration in 2018. She holds a professional teaching certification from the New York State Education Department and a school building leadership certificate from the New York State Education Department.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Ruiz has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She provides restorative circle work with Project Reset and does charitable events with Lambda Pi Chi. In addition to her primary vocation, she remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She was a member of the Council of Supervisors Association, the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. In light of her impressive undertakings, she has accrued several accolades throughout her career, including being recognized as Teacher of the Year.
