He initiated his involvement at same as a middle school teacher from 2015 to 2016, department head of career and technical education from 2020 to 2023, and instructor and district attendance officer since 2016. He began his career as a police officer at Palacios Police Department from 2006 to 2007. He worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a sergeant and food service manager from 2009 to 2011.
Dr. Douglas served as regional inventory asset specialist at the Texas Department of Public Safety in 2011 before finding success as owner of DT Sports Restaurants LLC from 2011 to 2013. He established himself as a substitute teacher at Karnes City Independent School District and Runge Independent School District from 2013 to 2015, and then as a police officer at Elmendorf Police Department from 2009 to 2016 and at Karnes City Police Department since 2017. He continued his career at the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Camp of Karnes City as lead instructor, crime scene forensics, coding and robotics since 2017.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Douglas pursued an education at Purdue University Global where he earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice administration and management in 2012 and a master of criminal justice in 2014. He continued his academic efforts at Walden University, graduating with a Master of Philosophy in 2020 and a PhD in criminal justice in 2021. He holds 16 certifications related to criminal and sexual assault investigations, classroom instruction, security, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, active shooter response and more. He also has a level III security license from the Texas Private Security Bureau and a Texas commission on law enforcement master peace officer license from the Police Academy of Victoria College.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Douglas has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He found success as a featured writer for the Karnes Countywide Newspaper and the Unchained Justice blog and volunteers at the Karnes County Food Bank Distribution. In addition to his primary vocation, he remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success Honor Society, Alpha Phi Sigma, the Golden Key International Honour Society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the Chamber of Commerce, the Humane Society of the United States, and sat on the board of directors of the Karnes County Humane Organization.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Dr. Douglas has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in America and was named to the National Society of High School Scholars. He was recognized as the Teacher of the Year by Kenedy High School, National Honor Teacher by the Law and Public Safety Education Network, and Officer of the Year by Elmendorf Police Department. He was named to the Dean’s List and the President’s List at Purdue University Global and presented with the Leadership Excellence Award by HDM Marketing Concepts.
