Van R. Wood, PhD, MBA, the Philip Morris Endowed Chair in International Business at Virginia Commonwealth University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of education.

With almost five decades of experience to his credit, Dr. Wood has found success in his role as a professor at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), where he has served since 1994. Specializing in business education, he is the Philip Morris Endowed Chair in International Business, and has held the role of director of the Center for International Business Advancement. In this capacity, he has focused much of his efforts in teaching graduate students, publishing his research through various specialty publications, and developing partnerships with other universities throughout the world for enhanced research and student engagement opportunities. Previously, Dr. Wood availed himself on behalf of students at a number of academic institutions, including Texas Tech University, the University of Oregon, Eastern Washington University, Gonzaga University, Federico Santa María Technical University and Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, Chile. 

Dr. Wood first studied business administration at the University of Washington Michael G. Foster School of Business, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1973. Following this accomplishment, he graduated with a Master of Business Administration in international business and marketing in 1975. After fielding several job offers, he accepted a role in Santiago, Chile, and soon went to work as a university instructor. Several years later, Dr. Wood attended the University of Oregon, from which he attained a Doctor of Philosophy in 1982. Throughout his subsequent career, he is most proud to have presided over a Global Challenges Module for VCU, which afforded international students with an all-encompassing view of modern global business. Looking toward the future, Dr. Wood aspires to continue cementing VCU’s vast network of business contacts.
