Anita Skop, senior advisor to the deputy chancellor at the New York City Department of Education, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of education administration.

Ms. Skop enjoyed a fulfilling career in education that spanned more than four decades, culminating in her role as the superintendent for Community School District 15 in Brooklyn, New York, prior to her retirement in 2023. She was formerly active as a senior advisor to the deputy chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, a capacity in which she offered her counsel and support to various school superintendents regarding student literacy and labor relations, and ultimately supervised more than 35 schools and over 25,000 students. Previously, she served in various administrative roles throughout the region, including as the community superintendent of District 15, a lead senior achievement facilitator, a local instructional superintendent for Region 5, the director of literacy and social studies at Community School District 19.

Prior to her work in administration, Ms. Skop earned acclaim as a teacher at Community School District 21 for more than a decade. Additionally, she has served as a member of the faculty staff for online graduate and undergraduate classes at Touro University, a private Jewish university in New York City, for more than two decades. Among her career-related endeavors, Ms. Skop also presented for a citywide reading workshop project, served as an instructor for the Midwood Development Program, and has been the corresponding secretary for The Rockland County Senior Club and The Forever Young Group.

Ms. Skop first studied English and education at Brooklyn College, from which she received a Bachelor of Arts in 1985. Following this accomplishment, she attended Adelphi University, where she graduated with a Master of Science in special education in 1993. She subsequently earned advanced certification in administration at Brooklyn College in 1999. 

Noted for her myriad achievements in the field, Ms. Skop is most proud to have implemented a diversity plan that sought to pave the way toward higher equity for children attending middle schools throughout New York. For this, and other such accomplishments, she was inducted into the Power Women List, earned an Educators for Student Success Educational Leadership Award, received a Shirley Chisholm Women of Excellence Award, and was hailed as a New York State Teacher of the Year for 1994, among many other accolades. Looking toward the future, Ms. Skop aspires to continue consulting on the subject of literacy, and to further distinguish herself as a university educator.
