Kathleen Stein-Smith, PhD, an adjunct faculty member at Fairleigh Dickinson University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of foreign language studies.

Well-regarded for her decades of service in her academic field, Dr. Stein-Smith has distinguished herself as an educator, author and advocate for the expansion of foreign language studies in the United States. In addition to her longstanding employment with Fairleigh Dickinson University as an associate university librarian and adjunct faculty member, she serves as the chairperson of the Commission on Advocacy for the American Association of Teachers of French, and has earned further distinction through her affiliation with several other organizations, including the American Translators Association, the Modern Language Association, the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, and the Central States Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, among others. Hailed for her tireless advocacy, Dr. Stein-Smith was notably recognized as a chevalier of the Ordre des Palmes académiques, a French order of merit that recognizes significant accomplishments in academia, in 2017, and later as an officier in 2022. 

Much sought after for her scholarly output, Dr. Stein-Smith has appeared as a presenter at various conferences, delivered TEDx talks, written eight books, and authored numerous articles on her blog, “Language Matters,” which attracts numerous visitors year-over-year. Her professional efforts were largely fueled by her own academic endeavors, during which time she studied at such institutions as Montclair State College, the Laval University, the Middlebury College Summer Language Institute, Columbia University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Union Institute & University, where she earned a Doctor of Philosophy in 2011.
