Jack D. Simons, PhD, Associate Professor at Mercy College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in school counseling, diversity and inclusion.

An accomplished educator and researcher, Dr. Simons has excelled as an associate professor at Mercy College since 2022. From 2016 to 2022, he served the same institution as an assistant professor, and from 2015 to 2016, he was a postdoctoral researcher at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Simons worked for the University of Arizona as a postdoctoral researcher from 2014 to 2015.

In preparation for his career pursuits, Dr. Simons attended St. Louis University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 2000. In 2015, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in counseling from the University of Missouri. Among his endeavors, he is the director of the Transgender Resilience Project and remains affiliated with PFLAG.

Dr. Simons remains affiliated with his field through membership to numerous professional organizations. He has contributed to the Westchester Putnam Rockland Counseling Association as the treasurer and was the past president of the Czech Slovak American Club of Tucson. Dr. Simons has also maintained membership with the American School Counselor Association, the New York State School Counselor Association and the European Association of Social Psychology.

Dr. Simons has been recognized for his accomplishments with a Research Award from the Western Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. He is proud of developing identity behavior theory, as his paper on the theory was published in an international journal. In the coming years, he plans to continue his work with the Transgender Resilience Project and expand his reach internationally. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, dancing, bicycling and studying nutrition.
