Who's Who Top Educators

Susan Ray-Degges

Title: Professor
Company: North Dakota State University
Location: Fargo, North Dakota, United States

Susan Ray-Degges, a professor at North Dakota State University (NDSU), has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of education.

Hailing from over 35 years of experience in her chosen field, Dr. Ray-Degges has distinguished herself through her work as a program coordinator at NDSU since 1992. In this capacity, she works with students to prepare them for careers in the interior design industry – particularly in making connections with their local communities and promoting concepts in evidence-based design solutions and accessible home design. Prior to her current role on the faculty at NDSU, Dr. Ray-Degges worked in various educational roles at a number of academic institutions, including the University of Missouri, the University of Central Arkansas, and Missouri State University. Well-regarded for her accomplishments throughout the course of her career, she was honored as Design Intelligence’s Most Admired Educator in Interior Design in 2019, and as a fellow of both the American Society of Interior Designers and the Interior Design Educators Council – at the latter organization, she notably served as national president from 2019 until 2020.

Having participated in home environmental projects with 4-H, Dr. Ray-Degges became inspired to pursue a career in interior design. After attaining a Bachelor of Science in home economics at Missouri State University, she went on to specialize in environmental design for the handicapped and elderly, and received a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Missouri. Among her subsequent accomplishments, she is most proud to have witnessed the success of her students, and to have become a certified designer in her own right. Looking toward the future, Dr. Ray-Degges aspires to serve as a mentor to new faculty staff and encourage high school curriculums to incorporate interior design education in their coursework.
