Dr. Shamlou is an accomplished leader in education with more than 40 years of experience to his credit. Since 2020, he has found success as the vice president and executive director of Thomas Jefferson University. Alongside these roles, he has also been the George B. and Joy Rathmann Professor and director of the Amgen Bioprocessing Center at the Keck Graduate Institute since 2014. Dr. Shamlou began his career as a professor and deputy department head at the University College London from 1983 to 2003. From 2003 to 2014, he garnered experience as a research adviser.
To prepare for his career in academic administration, Dr. Shamlou attended the University of Bradford. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy in chemical engineering. Alongside his primary roles, he authored “Handling of Bulk Solids: Theory and Practice” and edited “Processing of Solid-Liquid Suspension” in 1988 and 1993, respectively. Dr. Shamlou has also contributed to 70 and 80 publications in peer-reviewed journals. In his spare time, he enjoys photography, skiing, cycling and biking.
