Diana Leigh Wieland, the retired assistant director of teaching and learning at Colby Public Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of education.

Leveraging more than three decades of experience in her chosen field, Ms. Wieland earned distinction for her work in curriculum development and instruction at the Colby Public Schools between 1991 and her retirement in 2022. Previously, she had gained experience in various positions at the iConnect iLearn network, the Thomas County Academy and the Northwest Kansas Educational Service Center, and as a college instructor at several higher academic institutions. Well-regarded for her expertise as an educator, Ms. Wieland has been invited to participate at various industry conferences and symposia, and received an M. Claradine Johnson Excellence in Education Award in 2009. 

Ms. Wieland became involved in her field due to the influence of her parents, who imbued her with their passion for learning. She went on to attend Cloud County Community College, attaining an Associate of Arts in 1971. Following this accomplishment, she subsequently studied at Kansas State University, from which she received a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in 1973 and 1974. Eminently qualified in her field, she also earned certification in working with gifted students in 1978, and an education specialist degree at Pittsburg State University in 2004. Furthermore, to remain aware of developments in her field, Ms. Wieland has been a member of several organizations of relevance to her field, including the Association for Career and Technical Education, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the National Association for Gifted Children. Likewise, she has been the president of the Kansas Association for Gifted, Talented and Creative, which she played an important role in establishing.
