While the company is still relatively new, Dr. Read and her colleagues are hard at work developing the latest in neurotechnologies. Many of their core efforts are focused on creating utilities and tools to aid individuals with sleeping and multitasking, in addition to enhancing the overall human experience. Among her other professional pursuits, Dr. Read has excelled as the director of the Brain Computer Interface Group and as a member of the Neuroscience Steering Committee; both groups are based at her college.
Prior to her current appointments, Dr. Read originally joined the University of Connecticut in 2002, operating as an assistant professor in the school’s department of psychology until 2010. Furthermore, from 2019 to 202, she was a research affiliate at the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge. She was also a scientific consultant for Aptinyx Inc. in Evanston, Illinois, between 2017 and 2019. Ever committed to her professional endeavors, Dr. Read remains affiliated with the National Institutes of Health, the American Psychological Association and The New York Academy of Sciences.
In her own previous academic pursuits, Dr. Read began her collegiate studies at Texas A&M University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry. She subsequently continued her studies at the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and achieved a PhD in neuropharmacology in 1991. Further continuing her academic efforts, Dr. Read was a postdoctoral fellow in primate systems and computational neuroscience at The Rockerfeller University in 1995 and a postdoctoral fellow in neuroscience at the University of California, San Francisco in 2000.
Well-regarded for her professional and scholarly output, Dr. Read has been recognized with numerous accolades throughout her career, including being named as a Kavli Frontiers Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences in 2009 and 2017. She has also received such honors as the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience Award and the Arthur J. Schmitt Dissertation Award. Having long held an interest in the fields of neuroscience and helping others, Dr. Read has naturally thrived in her chosen profession, and she is abundantly proud of her accomplishments.
