Dr. Donavon P. Soumas, co-Founder, Educational Leader and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Consultant at RealizeDiversity LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education and community empowerment.
With more than 25 years of community leadership in education and performing arts, Dr. Soumas has dedicated his life to the educational support, advancement, and advocacy of people and students from underrepresented, and/or marginalized communities in the northeast region of the United States. For 15 years, Dr. Soumas was active as the Executive Director of Soumas Heritage School of Music in Plainfield, New Jersey. In addition, he is the Founder and former Executive Director of Helping to Enhance Resources by Incorporating The Arts to Gain Education (H.E.R.I.T.A.G.E. Inc.).
Dr. Soumas currently serves as a Lead Doctoral Advisor and Adjunct Professor of Education at the College of Graduate and Professional Studies at the University of New England in Portland, Maine. In addition, he is the Assistant Manager of DEI Learning and Development for Random Acts, a global organization that focuses on helping others by performing acts of kindness in local and global communities. Still connected to his early roots in music and spiritual practice, Dr. Soumas is the lead pianist at Green Valley United Methodist Church in Henderson, Nevada. He attributes his community empowerment success to the influence of his late parents, Clyde and Greta Soumas. Furthermore, he attributes his musical leadership success to his mentor, Dr. Hattie Wade of Shreveport, Louisiana.
As a testament to his many life-long achievements, Dr. Soumas has been presented with a number of accolades over the years, including a Legacy Award from The Links Inc., the Melange Award for Exemplary Leadership and Youth Advocacy, an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Board of Chosen Freeholders, the Richard A. Dennis Heirs Award from the Nathaniel Willingham Foundation and several Spotlight Awards from the Plainfield Square Merchants Association, among many other local and national awards.
