Glenn A. Burdick, Dean Emeritus at University of Southern Florida, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering education.

With decades of experience to his credit, Dr. Burdick has been distinguished as a dean emeritus at the University of Southern Florida since 1986, having previously excelled with the academic establishment as a professor of electrical engineering from 1965 to 1991 and the dean of the college of engineering from 1979 to 1986. During his tenure at the University of Southern Florida, he was additionally active as the president of Burdick Engineering and Sci. Inc. from 1983 to 2013. Prior to these positions, he worked as a senior member on the research staff with Sperry Microwave from 1961 to 1965, an instructor for Georgia Institute of Technology from 1956 to 1959, an office manager for Statewide Contractors from 1955 to 1956 and a special tool designer for Georgia Institute of Technology from 1954 to 1955. Dr. Burdick began his career serving his country in the U.S. Air Force between 1950 and 1954.

To support his professional ambitions, Dr. Burdick pursued an education at the Georgia Institute of Technology, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1958 and a Master of Science in 1959. Obtaining his registration to work as a professional engineer in the state of Florida, he concluded his studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1961, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy. He has accomplished much throughout his stellar career, including endowing the the Glenn A. and Joyce M. Burdick Scholarship Funds at The University of South Florida and the Georgia Institute of Technology, inventing the underground pipeline leak detector and inventing sailboat mast insulation. A recipient of multiple fellowships and scholarships over the years, Dr. Burdick was proudly recognized as the Engineering Faculty Member of the Year by the state of Florida in 1986, and the largest engineering building on the University of Southern Florida’s campus was named “Glenn A. Burdick Hall” in his honor in 2005.
