Jon DeCou, school principal of the Uplift Michigan Online School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of education administration.
Mr. DeCou leverages more than a decade of experience as a proven leader and educator. Since 2022, he has served as the principal of the Uplift Michigan Online School, a highly regarded online learning academy with a specialized curriculum for young students in the state of Michigan. In his leadership role, he oversees his staff and students, guides business operations and learning programs, and works with parents to ensure their children receive the highest quality education. Prior to his current appointment, Mr. DeCou operated as the director of the Youth Advancement Academy in Kalamazoo, Michigan, from 2019 to 2022. He originally began his career in 2009, working as a teacher for Vincennes Lincoln High School until 2010, after which point he subsequently worked extensively as a K-12 teacher with various local schools.
Before beginning his vocational journey, Mr. DeCou pursued a formal education at Albion College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in history and health education in 2008. Over the course of his career, he later achieved a Master of Arts in secondary education and teaching at Earlham College in 2009 and a Master of Arts in school principalship, educational administration and supervision at Central Michigan University in 2016. The latter institution also recognized Mr. DeCou as a Specialist in Education (EdS) in 2023. As part of his dedication to his profession, he also remains affiliated with the Michigan Association of Public School Academies, the Society of Collegiate Leadership and Achievement and the International Association of Computer Online Learners. In light of his accomplished career, he was honored with a Distinguished Service Award in 2019 and nominated as Administrator of the Year in 2022. In the coming years, Mr. DeCou hopes to obtain a doctoral degree and begin teaching at the collegiate level.
