Horace Bartilow, Professor at American University School of International Service, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in political science education.

With 30 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Bartilow has excelled as a professor at the American University School of International Service since 2021. Prior to this position, he was active as a professor with the University of Kentucky from 1995 to 2021 and a research consultant with the University of Albany Center for International Development from 2010 to 2011. He began his career as an assistant professor at the University of Dayton from 1993 to 1995. An accomplished writer with more than 17 articles published in peer-review journals, Mr. Bartilow has been further affiliated with the American Political Science Association, the International Studies Association and the Latin American Studies Association.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Bartilow pursued an education at Fulton-Montgomery Community College, completing undergraduate coursework in sociology between 1980 and 1982. He continued his academic efforts at the State University of New York at Albany, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science, magna cum laude, in 1984 and a Master of Arts in political science in 1986. A Fulbright scholar, Mr. Bartilow concluded his studies at the State University of New York at Albany in 1994, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in international political economy. 

Attributing his success to his persistence and strength, which helped him overcome institutional racism during his tenure in academia, Mr. Bartilow was presented with the President’s Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation Award from the State University of New York at Albany in 1994, a Dissertation Grant Award from the Institute of World Politics and an Award from the Academic Council on the United Nations System. As a highlight of his career, he was proudly recognized with The Teacher Who Made A Difference Award by the University of Kentucky in 2010, for which he was nominated by his students. In the coming years, Mr. Bartilow hopes to continue his active research agenda while finishing and publishing his three books.
