Tom Farrell, associate professor emeritus at Dakota State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in computer education.
With more than five decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Farrell is a proven leader in the field of education. Specializing in technology, computers and physical education, he operated as an associate professor at Dakota State University from 1970 to 2009. Additionally, he was a coach at the school from 1970 to 1985. Since retiring from teaching full-time, he has maintained his status as an emeritus associate professor at the institution. Though he is now retired, Mr. Farrell also continues to serve the college by teaching graduate classes during summers.
As part of his vocational journey, Mr. Farrell previously cultivated his own formal education, having originally graduated from Dakota State University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in health and physical education. During his time at the college as a student, he was elected to the Kappa Sigma Iota honor society. Mr. Farrell subsequently continued his studies at South Dakota State University and achieved a Master of Science in health, physical education and recreation in 1971.
Outside of his primary professional interests, Mr. Farrell has remained active as a member of his local school board for 13 years, having also been the board’s president during that time. To commemorate his accomplishments in the field, he was named amongst the Outstanding Young Men of America and as an Outstanding Educator of America. Furthermore, he formerly served as the president of the college division of the South Dakota Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
In light of his fulfilling career, Mr. Farrell has largely attributed his success to his ability to take advantage of various opportunities. To wit, he has been able to open many doors along his professional path. Accounting for his accomplishments, he is particularly proud to have seen many of his students achieve success in various technological fields. In the coming years, Mr. Farrell looks forward to continuing in his light teaching endeavors.
