Tara Watkins-Washington, School Counselor at Woodlawn Middle School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in school counseling.
For more than 20 years, Ms. Watkins-Washington has worked as a school counselor at Woodlawn Middle School. In this capacity, she counsels students in college and career readiness, social and emotional skills, behavioral issues and academics. Before this role, she was a mental health provider and counselor in rehabilitation and child protection. Ms. Watkins-Washington attributes her success to the leaders who took her in and mentored her. For her professional excellence, she was named School Counselor of the Year and was recognized by the American School Counselor Association. Additionally, she was featured by the Louisiana Counseling Association.
Ms. Watkins-Washington prepared for her career at Louisiana State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree. Following this degree, she graduated from Southern University and A&M College with a master’s degree in mental health counseling. In addition to her formal degrees, Ms. Watkins-Washington is a nationally board-certified school counselor. She has maintained affiliation with the American School Counselor Association and was the past president of the Louisiana School Counselor Association. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and conducting research.
