With years of experience to her credit, Ms. Powell has excelled as an academic advisor with the Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) at the Borough of Manhattan Community College since 2016, which is a part of the City University of New York education system. Prior to this position, she served with Brooklyn College and the Research Foundation of the City University of New York as a program coordinator and academic advisor for the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program, which is also known as CSTEP, between 2014 and 2016. Dedicated to helping students discover who they are so they may become whatever they would like, she was previously active as a college advisor for the Harlem Children’s Zone from 2011 to 2013. Ms. Powell began her career in higher education as an English tutor and college assistant for Kingsborough Community College from 2009 to 2011.

Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Powell pursued an education at Kingsborough Community College, earning an Associate of Arts in liberal arts and sciences in 2007. She continued her academic efforts by obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in English with a Concentration in Literature with The City College of New York in 2009. She concluded her studies at the CUNY School of Professional Studies in 2020, graduating with a Master of Science in disability services in higher education. Recognized as a Kennedy Fellow by the John. F Kennedy Jr. Institute for Worker Education at CUNY, she was further presented with the Foundations of Leadership Certificate by the National Society of Leadership and Success. Attributing her success to the people around her as well as the opportunity to see her students thrive, Ms. Powell hopes to advance her career in higher education and continue to set a foundation for students to succeed.
