Hong Zhang, PhD, Professor of Computer Science at Georgia Southern University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in computer science and mathematics.

Dr. Zhang began his studies at Fudan University in China, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in computer science in 1982. Following his immigration to the United States in 1983, he attended the University of Pittsburgh, earning a Master of Science in electrical engineering in 1984 and a Master of Arts in mathematics in 1985. Dr. Zhang concluded his higher education in 1989, graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with a Doctor of Philosophy in mathematics.

Dr. Zhang shares his expertise as a computer science professor at Georgia Southern University. From 2019 to 2020, he acted as interim department chair of computer science, and from 2018 to 2019, he was interim department chair of information technology. Dr. Zhang has also served as an educator for Armstrong State University, acting as a professor of computer science since 2007. He was the department head of computer science and information technology from 2010 to 2018.

For his accomplishments and excellence as both an educator and student, Dr. Zhang has been recognized with multiple honors. In 2000, he earned a grant from the National Institutes of Health, and in 1979, he won first place in the Fudan Math Competition. After earning a scholarship to study abroad, Dr. Zhang was an Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in 1985 and 1986.

To keep abreast of changes in his field, Dr. Zhang has maintained affiliation with multiple organizations related to his areas of expertise. He is a member of the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of America and the Association for Computing Machinery. Among his career accomplishments, he is proudest of being a research scientist for Horus Therapeutics and BIOwulf Technologies. Dr. Zhang attributes his success to staying in the United States, as it is an exceptional environment for his research. In the coming years, he plans to contribute to the health care field.
