C.W. Kern, PhD, Professor Emeritus at Northwestern University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in chemical physics and quantum chemistry.

Retired after more than 35 years of professional excellence, Dr. Kern has held the designation of professor emeritus at Northwestern University since 1998. From 1993 to 1998, he served as vice president of research and graduate studies at the institution, and from 1992 to 1998, he was a professor of chemistry. Formerly, Dr. Kern was vice president of research and dean of the graduate school from 1992 to 1993.

Prior to his work at Northwestern University, Dr. Kern garnered experience as a professor of chemistry in the College of Mathematics and Physical Sciences at The Ohio State University from 1986 to 1992. In 1986, he was the assistant director of general science in the Office of Science and Technology Policy with the Office of the President in Washington, D.C. Dr. Kern served the National Science Foundation as acting director of the Division of Chemistry from 1984 to 1985 and program director of structural chemistry and thermodynamics from 1983 to 1984.

Among his extensive experience, Dr. Kern was the co-chairman on current biological problems with the School for Physical Scientists in 1977. He was part of the Summer Research Conference on Theoretical Chemistry in Boulder, Colorado, in 1975, and a member of the Carnegie-Mellon University Admissions Council from 1970 to 1972. In 1969, Dr. Kern was chairman of the School of Many-Body Techniques in Chemistry in Seattle, Washington.

From 1967 to 1981, Dr. Kern served as an associate editor of Chemical Physics Letters. He has been a contributor of articles to numerous professional journals and is proud to have worked in a laboratory alongside two Nobel laureates. To keep abreast of developments in his field, Dr. Kern has maintained membership with the American Chemical Society.

In recognition of his professional accomplishments, Dr. Kern is the recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. He was featured in the Marquis Millennium Magazine and was recognized with the Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award. Additionally, Dr. Kern has been named a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Leader and a Top Scientist.

Dr. Kern attributes his success to the people with whom he has surrounded himself. He has learned a great deal from the gifted individuals in his orbit throughout his career and has actively tried to improve himself and achieve a higher standard of expertise. Dr. Kern plans to develop a successful new hedge fund in the coming years. In his spare time, he enjoys studying the stock market, reading the New York Times and following the news related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
