Prior to this position, she garnered 25 years of experience in the banking industry. She is a member of the Professional Education Standards Board and a board member of Washington Ethnic Studies Now. Alongside her primary positions, Ms. Johnson was appointed chair of the state of Washington’s paraeducator board by Governor Jay Inslee.
In preparation for her career, Ms. Johnson graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in history, with a minor in elementary education, in 2011. She is a Certified Paraprofessional and advocates for addressing inequities in the field. For her professional excellence, the Washington Education Association named Ms. Johnson Education Support Professional of the Year for 2022-2023. She additionally received a Leadership Award for Educational Support for the 2022-2023 school year and was named Inspiring Educator of the Year by the Washington Education Association’s Black Caucus in 2021. To keep abreast of changes in her field, Ms. Johnson is an appointed board member of the Washington Education Association and maintains affiliation with the State Education Union, the Professional Education Professionals Board and the National Education Association.
