Jason B. Oby, the interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences at Texas Southern University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of educational administration.
With more than four decades of experience in his chosen field, Dr. Oby has distinguished himself as the interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences (COLABS) at Texas Southern University. Having first joined the faculty staff as a professor of music in 1996, he went on to serve as the chairperson of the department of music in 2013, the director of the opera workshop, the director of choirs, and as the interim dean at COLABS in 2015. In this capacity, Dr. Oby has accrued a wealth of expertise in higher education, financial administration, mentorship, curriculum development, the performing arts, and community engagement, among other fields.
Having long nourished a deep appreciation for the arts, Dr. Oby’s background as a choir singer spurred him to participate in high school competitions, where he won in various categories and became involved in the industry. He studied music at Loyola University, from which he earned a Bachelor of Music. Following this accomplishment, he went on to the Manhattan School of Music, where he attained a bachelor’s degree in music and voice and a Master of Music in vocal performance. Dr. Oby ultimately received a Doctor of Music from Florida State University.
In accounting for his success, Dr. Oby credits the influence of his teachers, who encouraged him to pursue his career path in education. Looking toward the future, he plans to gradually draw down on his full-time responsibilities and retire from his role at the university to pursue different interests, such as painting and world travel.
