Arlene M. McIntosh, MEd, a retired educator at the New York City Department of Education, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of public education.

Having enjoyed a fulfilling career in public education that spanned more than 35 years, Ms. McIntosh retired from her role as an early childhood instructional coordinator at the New York City Department of Education in 2021. Having first joined the department in 1986, she primarily served as an early reading specialist under the Early Reading First program, a creation of the No Child Left Behind Act in 2001. Additionally, she found success in an education program in the ninth district of New York from 2002 until 2008.

Ms. McIntosh’s performance in the field was largely born of her academic efforts, during which time she received a Master of Arts in psychology and a Master of Education from Columbia University in 1991. She also attained a master’s degree in administration from the Bank Street College of Education in 2001.

For her exemplary performance throughout the course of her career, Ms. McIntosh is proud to have been nominated for a New York Teacher Award. Likewise, she is gratified to have contributed more than three decades of service to her teaching career, and to have advanced the cause of diversity across the burroughs of New York. She gleaned a tremendous sense of accomplishment from helping a variety of teachers and administrators reach a better understanding of how to work with the youngest population, and to have nurtured the careers of many as a result.

Looking toward the future, Ms. McIntosh hopes to complete her doctorate and leverage her curriculum writing skills in a political setting.
