Patricia Kelly Vana, RN, MSN, Professor Emeritus at Purdue University Northwest, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical education.

With more than 60 years of experience to her credit, Professor Kelly Vana has found success in myriad nursing and nursing education positions as a Staff Nurse, Head Nurse, Travel Nurse, School Nurse, Volunteer Nurse, and Professor Emeritus of Nursing between 1962 and 2022 in Florida, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Texas.  She was active in various nursing education positions as a Nursing Program Coordinator and Professor Emeritus of  Nursing at Purdue University Northwest College of Nursing, a Faculty member at the Chicago State University College of Nursing, a Faculty member at Chicago  Wesley-Passavant School of Nursing, and as the Chairman of the Curriculum Committee at the Chicago Wesley-Passavant School of Nursing.  She was appointed as the Director of Quality Improvement at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics from 1977 to 1979.  She taught The Joint Commission Quality Improvement Seminars throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Professor Kelly Vana also has excelled as a part-time faculty member teaching National Council Licensure Examination [for] Registered Nurses(NCLEX-RN) Reviews for Resource Applications, Pediatric Concepts, Kaplan, Inc., and Elsevier Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI) since 1990.  Frequently published in nursing journals, Professor Kelly Vana has been a national disaster volunteer for the American Red Cross; a team member on healthcare relief trips to Nicaragua;  and a nursing volunteer  at The Old Irving Park Chicago Community Free Clinic;  the Fort Myers, Florida, Gladiolus Free Food Pantry; the Oak Lawn, Illinois, Advocate Christ Medical Center; and at Gulf Coast Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida.

Before embarking on her professional path, Professor Kelly Vana pursued an education at the St. Margaret Hospital School of Nursing, from which she earned a Diploma in Nursing in 1962. She continued her academic efforts with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree at DePaul University in 1969. She concluded studies at Loyola University in 1975, graduating with a Master’s Degree in Nursing.  Professor Kelly Vana has served on the Board of Directors of Tri-City Mental Health Center, East Chicago, IN; St. Anthony’s Home, Crown Point, IN; and the Mosby Quality Connection, Elsevier Publications.  She is co-editor/author of seventeen editions of nursing textbooks, including most recently, Quality and Safety Education for Nurses, Core Competencies for Nursing Leadership and Management, Third  Edition, with co-editors/authors Beth A. Vottero and Gerry Altmiller. (2022).  Professor Kelly Vana has recently been honored with inclusion in the Loyola University Library Alumni Authors Collection.  As a testament to her accomplishments, Professor Kelly Vana has been recognized among the 2000 Notable American Women and has been honored within International Who’s Who of Professional and Business Women..
