Wes A. Brown, the band director at Water Valley High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.
Driven by a lifelong interest in music and a commitment to quality leadership, Mr. Brown has earned distinction as the band director at Water Valley High School in Water Valley, Mississippi, since 2019. In this capacity, he is responsible for teaching sixth and seventh-grade students how to read music and play various instruments, as well as providing instruction in choir music and music appreciation. Previously, Mr. Brown distinguished himself as a student teacher at Senatobia High School, and as a professor at the University of Mississippi.
Mr. Brown initially became involved in his profession due to the influence of his mentor, Kevin Cole, who served as a band director in his own right. Benefiting richly from his tutelage, Mr. Brown became a drum major in high school and dove deeper into the field of music education. Likewise, he drew deeply from his experiences as a Boy Scout, from which he learned much about leadership. He went on to study at the University of Mississippi, from which he earned a bachelor’s degree in 2019 and a master’s degree in 2021.
Among his most cherished accomplishments, Mr. Brown is proud to have watched his students perform during concert evaluations, through which they have consistently received superior ratings. To remain aware of developments in the field, he maintains his affiliation with the Band Directors Association. Looking toward the future, Mr. Brown aspires to increase the number of band participants from 30 to almost 100 students, while maintaining his band’s high rating.
