Claudette Woodhouse, MSEd, Teacher at Norfolk Public Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in public education.

With more than a decade of experience to her credit, Ms. Woodhouse has excelled as a teacher for Norfolk Public Schools since 2022, a board member for The Solidarity Initiative since 2020 and a teacher with Horizons Hampton Roads since 2018. During this time, she served as a high school coordinator with Horizons Hampton Roads from 2018 to 2021 and a teacher with Portsmouth Public Schools from 2017 to 2022. Prior to these appointments, Ms. Woodhouse worked as a teacher assistant with Horizons Hampton Roads from 2016 to 2017, an AVID tutor with Virginia Beach City Public Schools from 2016 to 2017 and a library aide with the city of Norfolk, Virginia from 2015 to 2016.

Ms. Woodhouse previously found success with Old Dominion University as a representative for the Black Student Alliance from 2015 to 2016, the director of outreach and engagement for ODU Democrats from 2015 to 2016 and an outreach and event coordinator for the Black Student Alliance from 2013 to 2016. She began her career as a program site assistant and a high school aide with Horizons Hampton Roads between 2009 and 2015. Beyond her primary professional responsibilities, Ms. Woodhouse has been active as a long-term guest teacher at Norfolk Public Schools, a fellow of the Campus Election Engagement Project, a board member of the Southeastern Virginia Arts Association and a mentor with the Big Brother Big Sister Foundation.

Ms. Woodhouse initially pursued an education at Old Dominion University, from which she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in history with minors in secondary education, geography and public service in 2016. She subsequently earned a number of certifications from edX, including those in public financial management, public policy, learning leadership and economic development, to name a few. Ms. Woodhouse concluded her studies at Old Dominion University in 2021, graduating with a Master of Science in educational leadership and administration with licensure for pre-K to grade 12.

Attributing her success to the encouragement and values instilled in her by her family as well as her involvement with Civic Scholars, Ms. Woodhouse was notably presented with an Excellence in Education Award. Among the many highlights of her career, she is proud of her participation in events highlighting ethnic diversities and the history of different populations within her community and her promotion of Black Currency Day at Old Dominion University. Looking toward the future, Ms. Woodhouse hopes to obtain her PhD while advancing to an administrative position at Norfolk Public Schools.
