Anjali M. Bhorade, MD, associate professor at Washington University in St. Louis, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical education.

Having accrued over a decade of experience, Dr. Bhorade is a rising leader in the field of health care education. Specializing in ophthalmology, she has operated as an associate professor at Washington University in St. Louis since 2012. Adjacent to her primary duties as an educator, Dr. Bhorade has also worked extensively as a doctor, particularly in the fields of clinical surgery and clinical science. 

As part of her dedication to her profession, Dr. Bhorade remains active as a board member of the American Geriatrics Society and as the director of the Glaucoma Fellowship Program at her university. Additionally, she is an editor and member of the editorial board of the Ophthalmology Glaucoma Journal. She is also a former board and committee member of the American Glaucoma Society. To commemorate her accomplishments in the field, Dr. Bhorade has been honored with several honors and accolades, including recognition as an Exceptional Woman in Medicine from 2019 to 2021, a Clinician Teacher of the Year Award, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award.

Prior to embarking on her vocational journey, Dr. Bhorade pursued a higher education, beginning with her time at Cornell University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in biology in 1995. She subsequently continued her studies at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1999. Following her graduation, Dr. Bhorade began her work in the field in earnest, completing her residency in ophthalmology at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at UI Health in 2003 and a fellowship in glaucoma at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of the University of Miami Health System in 2004.

In light of her fulfilling career, Dr. Bhorade largely attributes her success to her compassion, resilience, and dedication to her parents and family. To wit, she is most notably proud to have made a positive impact on the lives of countless patients and clients throughout her time in her profession. Furthermore, she is grateful for her many opportunities to spread awareness of ophthalmology in the medical community. Looking to the future, Dr. Bhorade hopes to continue researching, participating in charity work, and mentoring students.
