Ronald William Root, Retired Educator at Root Ranch, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education and academic librarianship.
With many years of excellence to his credit, Mr. Root began his career as a teaching principal in Red Rock Public Schools in Red Rock, Oklahoma, having previously graduated as salutatorian of his class in Kellyville, Oklahoma. Subsequently accepting teaching positions in Hartshorne, Depew, and Bristow, Oklahoma school systems, he earned an accredited master’s degree in library science from Oklahoma University and worked as both an associate professor of the business library at Central Missouri State University as well as a Christian house father for ten boys. Soon thereafter, he was recruited by Tulsa Community College, formerly known as Tulsa Junior College, to establish a library, where he would serve for more than 30 years prior to retiring to his family ranch to raise beef cattle. Beyond his primary professional endeavors, Mr. Root has been active as the former vice president of the Creek County 4-H Club, a past member of the Creek County and State Teachers Association, a member of the Retired Creek County Teachers Association and a member of the Creek County and State Cattlemen’s Association.
A former veteran of the Oklahoma Air National Guard who completed more than 22 years of service, Mr. Root is an avid gun collector and enthusiast, having competed on the Oklahoma State University Varsity and ROTC rifle team as a 3-year letterman. During this time, he was nominated by the opposing Kansas State University coach at Manhattan, Kansas for the honor of All-American and obtained a number of marksman medals. Among the numerous highlights of his career, he was incredibly proud of outshooting the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado and becoming the top marksman in the Oklahoma State National Guard. In terms of his personal accomplishments, Mr. Root is grateful to have become a Christian while a sophomore in high school and marrying his wife, Sue Dawn Wofford.
