Katherine Looney Phillips, Retired Teacher at the Lowery Freshman Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.
Now retired, Ms. Phillips is an accomplished educator who most recently served as a teacher with the Lowery Freshman Center, where she remained for 14 years. She earned an undergraduate degree in special education from the University of Alabama in 1977, a graduate degree in elementary education at Georgetown College and additional certifications in English as a Second Language (ESL) education, special education for grades K-12, and elementary through fourth grade education. Ms. Phillips became involved in her career field after working with individuals with intellectual disabilities during her high school education.
Alongside her work in education, Ms. Phillips served as an administrative assistant with the Swearingen Realty Group and Chase Bank. Since her retirement after 25 years in education, she looks forward to giving back to her community through the local school districts and also by providing respite care for families in the area with special needs children. In her spare time, she enjoys music, singing, theater and spending time with family and friends.
