With over four decades of experience to her credit, Ms. Hoelker has cultivated a career of excellence as an international educator. Since 2020, she has served as the English writing program instructor at Nazarbayev University in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. Prior to her current appointment, she was an academic writing, composition, oral discourse and vocabulary teacher at Wenzhou-Kean University in Wenzhou, China, from 2016 to 2019. In her other professional endeavors, she has also operated with Qatar University in Doha, Qatar, Zayed University in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, Pusan National University in South Korea, and the Konan Women’s University in Kobe, Japan. Ms. Hoelker originally began her career working as an assistant professor with the national universities of the Peace Corps in Africa between 1981 and 1983.
Before embarking on her vocational journey, Ms. Hoelker pursued her own formal education. To wit, she holds several degrees, including a Master of Arts in English literature from Western New Mexico University, a Master of Arts in French from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Master of Arts in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) from the School for International Training. Additionally, she remains affiliated with several industry-related organizations, including the International Coach Federation and the Japan Association Language for Language Teaching. In light of her fulfilling career, Ms. Hoelker is most notably proud of her work with the Peace Corps. Looking to the future, she is considering retiring, and she hopes to publish a book.
