In preparation for his career pursuits, Dr. Aql attended Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri, earning a Bachelor of Science in computer science in 1989. In 2005, he graduated from Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri, with a Master of Education in teaching and learning strategies. He concluded his higher education at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas, obtaining a Doctor of Education in educational leadership in 2011.
Since 2011, Dr. Aql has found success as a senior professional development specialist in leadership programs with Qatar University. From 2002 to 2011, he was a teacher and training specialist with the Hickman Mills School District in Kansas City, Missouri, and from 1996 to 2002, he was a high school math teacher with the same district. Dr. Aql began his career in 1993 as the owner and founder of Aqua Rents Marines and Tropicals in Kansas City, Missouri.
Dr. Aql’s areas of expertise include training, professional development, and educational leadership. He attributes his success to having a great group of teachers around him during his formative professional years. His colleagues inspired him and encouraged him to become a certified teacher, and he is motivated by being able to make a difference rather than financial gain. Dr. Aql began his career as a substitute teacher in 1996, and after initial difficulty, he started to gain control of his classes and realized his gift for education.
After working as a high school math teacher, Dr. Aql felt his job was limited, and he wanted to better himself to provide more professionally. He decided to pursue a master’s degree in teaching and went on to earn a doctorate as well. Among his career accomplishments, he is proudest of his impact on his students. In the coming years, Dr. Aql hopes to focus his efforts on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
