Dr. Elnora D. Daniel, former president of Chicago State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in higher education administration.
Having accumulated over five decades of experience, Dr. Daniel is a proven leader in the field of education. Specializing in high education and curriculum development, she formerly served as the president of Chicago State University, having taken the position in 1998 and retiring in 2008. Prior to joining the institution, she served as a detachment commandant in the 5th Health Services Brigade from 1996 and 1998 and as the executive vice president and provost of Hampton University from 1995 to 1998. Dr. Daniel originally joined Hampton in 1980 as a professor and dean.
Before embarking on her vocational journey, Dr. Daniel pursued a formal education, beginning with her time at the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in 1964. She subsequently continued and concluded her studies at Columbia University, receiving a Master of Education in curriculum and instruction in 1972 and a Doctor of Education in curriculum and instruction in 1975. Shortly thereafter, she began her career at the university, serving as a graduate teaching assistant between 1975 and 1976. Dr. Daniel also honorably served with the United States Army Reserve Nurse Corps, achieving the rank of colonel prior to retiring.
As part of her dedication to her profession, Dr. Daniel remains affiliated with several industry-related organizations, including the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education, and The HistoryMakers. In her creative endeavors, she also worked as a consulting editor of the journal of the National Black Nurses Association. To commemorate her accomplishments in the field, Dr. Daniel has been honored by the Academic Dream Weavers, the Gallery of Great Calendar, and Miller Brewing Company.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Daniel has largely attributed her success to the love and support of her husband. She also owes a great deal to her competitive and ambitious attitude. Though she spent much of her career in the field of education, she also worked extensively as a nurse, as it was always her intention to help others as a health care specialist. Accounting for her many accomplishments, Dr. Daniel is most notably proud to have written countless academic grants while serving as the president of Chicago State University.
