Proud to witness the growth of her students from kindergarten to college, Ms. Powell’s career has been filled with highlights, including having been nominated for the Christa McAuliffe Outstanding Teacher Award in 2019 and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching during the 2019-2020 school year, her ability to adapt to the restrictions posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, increasing the engagement within her classes by apply diverse and new teaching methodologies and offering tailored online field trips with various institutes to her students during the aforementioned pandemic.

Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Powell pursued a formal education, earning a bachelor’s degree in the administration of justice in 1995. She subsequently concluded her studies at Howard University in 1999, graduating with a master’s degree in education curriculum and instruction in 1999. As a testament to her stellar endeavors, she was presented with the Ludlow Taylor Outstanding Teacher Award from the District of Columbia Public Schools in 2000. Attributing her success to her faith in God, Ms. Powell has contributed as a volunteer with the Advent Light Ministry, the Capitol Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church, the American Heart Association and Women Help Access Matters, the vice president for fundraising with Pathways in Technology Early College High School, a teacher liaison with her local PTA and a delegate for the Maryland State Education Association.
