Honored for Excellence in Volunteerism by the Hamilton County Community Action Agency, she was likewise recognized as the Volunteer of the Year by Victory Neighborhood Head Start. Attributing her success to her passion for teaching and helping students, especially special education students, she was drawn to her field following her experiences with her youngest son, who was diagnosed with glaucoma at birth and fostered her instincts as a teacher.
