Thomas Patrick Walsh, PhD, Professor Emeritus at the University of Nebraska Omaha, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in English education.

An accomplished educator with more than 35 years of experience at the University of Nebraska Omaha, Dr. Walsh has held the designation of professor emeritus at the institution since 2000. In preparation for his career in higher education, he attended Creighton University, completing coursework between 1951 and 1954, before graduating from the University of Nebraska Omaha with a Bachelor of Arts in 1960. He went on to earn a Master of Arts from the University of Oklahoma in 1963 and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Nebraska in 1973. Dr. Walsh earned a National Defense Education Act fellowship to attend Oklahoma University in addition to two Fulbright scholarships to Romania and the Philippines.

In addition to his work as an educator, Dr. Walsh is also an accomplished author and contributor of articles to professional journals. He co-authored reference guides for multiple famous figures, including Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath, John Osborne, John Barth, Jerzy Kosinski, and Thomas Pynchon. Dr. Walsh wrote “Dracula: Logos and Myth, Ethos” which was republished in 2016 and co-authored “English Synonyms” in 1985. He has been recognized for his accomplishments in the 4th edition of Who’s Who in American Education.

Dr. Walsh maintains affiliation with the Fulbright Alumni Association and was the past director of Sigma Tau Delta at the University of Nebraska Omaha. In his spare time, he is an avid lover of table tennis and was even State Champion of Table Tennis in Nebraska in 1971. In 1970, he was president of the Omaha Table Tennis Association. Dr. Walsh also enjoys music and reading. He is grateful for the support of his mentor at the University of Nebraska Omaha, Ralph Wardle, who helped him earn his National Defense Education Act fellowship alongside the school dean Robert Harper. As an expert on American literature and British literature of the 19th century, Dr. Walsh considers his most notable achievement to be his time as an educator in Romania.
