Richard Brandon Guffey, Band Director at Virginia High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.
Mr. Guffey is a certified music educator for kindergarten through 12th grade in the state of Virginia and currently works as a band director for Virginia High School with the Bristol Virginia Public Schools. He was previously a band director with Marion Middle School and Marion Senior High School, and was an adjunct instructor at various middle and high schools throughout Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. In preparation for his career, Mr. Guffey attended East Tennessee State University, earning a Bachelor of Music in 2011.
In recognition of his career accomplishments, Mr. Guffey earned a Smyth County Middle School Teacher of the Year award for the 2016-2017 school year. He maintains affiliation with the National Association for Music Education, the Virginia Music Educators Association, the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, the National Education Association, the Virginia Educators Association, the Percussive Arts Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Mr. Guffey became involved in his profession because of the inspiration of his mother, a flute and piano player. Together, they are both members of the State Line Wind Symphony. In the coming years, Mr. Guffey plans to experience continued success as a music educator.
