Edward M. Copeland III, MD, professor emeritus of surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical education.

With over five decades of experience to his credit, Dr. Copeland is a proven expert in the field of medical education. Specializing in surgical oncology, he has held the prestigious title of professor emeritus of surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine since 2008, having originally joined the school as a professor in 1982. Prior to joining the University of Florida, he operated as a professor of surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston from 1971 until 1982. Before beginning his professional career, Dr. Copeland honorably served with the United States Army in the Army Medical Corps, working alongside the Surgeon General and achieving the rank of major prior to retiring.

As part of his vocational journey, Dr. Copeland cultivated his own formal education, beginning with his time at Duke University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1959. After achieving a Doctor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine (formerly the Cornell University Medical School) in 1963, he completed his residency in general surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and an advanced senior fellowship in cancer surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. To wit, both institutions have recognized Dr. Copeland with Distinguished Alumnus Awards. Well regarded for his scholarly output and accomplishments in the field, he has also been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 2008 and several other honors and accolades. Having found a great deal of success in serving others as a surgeon and doctor over the course of his career, Dr. Copeland is happily retired, and he looks forward to publishing his seventh book on diseases in the near future.
