Dennis Gregg, Retired Department Chair for High School Social Studies at San Francisco Unified School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in social studies education.
With more than 50 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Gregg has excelled as the supervisor of student teachers at the University of San Francisco since 2004. He had previously found success as the chairman of the department of social studies at George Washington High School, part of the San Francisco Unified School District, between 1984 and 2005. In addition to these positions, he was active as a teacher in the department of social studies at the aforementioned high school between 1971 and 2005 as well as a mentor teacher in the aforementioned school district between 1984 and 1998. Mr. Gregg began his career as a teacher at Pelton Junior High School, part of the San Francisco Unified School District, from 1968 to 1971.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Gregg pursued an education at the University of California Berkeley, from which she earned a Bachelor of Arts in American history in 1964. He continued his academic efforts with a Master of Arts in American history at Harvard University in 1965. Following these accomplishments, Mr. Gregg concluded his studies at Harvard University in 1968, graduating with an All-But-Dissertation in American history.
Beyond his primary responsibilities, Mr. Gregg has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. Recruited as an associate of the World Affairs Council of Northern California since 2001, he has been further affiliated with the San Francisco Council for the Social Studies, the California Council for the Social Studies, the World Forum, the Bay Area Global Education Project and San Francisco State University in various posts. He also contributed to the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco and the San Francisco Presidio Officers Club through his civic pursuits. Moreover, Mr. Gregg has provided his wealth of knowledge to myriad published articles and papers, including those featured in National Journal, Social Education, and New World History, as well as “The Promise of America” for Science Research Associates, among others.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Gregg has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. A former fellow of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the U.S. Institute for Peace, he was presented with a Mentor Teacher Awards from the San Francisco Unified School District between 1984 and 1988. Likewise, he was recognized as the Northern California Economics Teacher of the Year by the California Council for Economic Literacy in 1985. Attributing his success to his love for teaching, Mr. Gregg hopes to travel with his wife when not dedicating his spare time to volunteer activities in the coming years.
