Neil C. With more than 20 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Sheppard has excelled at the University of Pennsylvania Center for Cellular Immunotherapies as the head of the T-Cell Engineering Laboratory since 2020, an adjunct associate professor of pathology and laboratory medicine since 2020 and the director of research technologies and innovation since 2019. Previously working as the executive director program leader with Tmunity Therapeutics Incorporated from 2018 to 2019, he had formerly found success in a number of positions with GlaxoSmithKline between 2013 and 2019. Prior to these appointments, he served as a senior scientist and principal scientist for vaccine research with Pfizer between 2007 and 2013. Dr. Sheppard began his career as an industrial trainee with GlaxoWellcome from 2000 to 2001 and a lecturer in molecular medicine with Magdalen College from 2006 to 2007.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Sheppard pursued an education at the University of Bristol, earning a Bachelor of Science in immunology in 2002. He continued his academic efforts at the University of Oxford, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in molecular retrovirology and vaccines research in 2006. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Sheppard refined his skills as a postdoctoral scientist at the Dunn School of Pathology at the University of Oxford in 2007.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Sheppard has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. In 2020, he was presented with the Team of Science Recognition Award from the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer. Among the many highlights of his career, he is incredibly proud of his current clinical trials and his participation in the development of medicine for a biotech company called Adaptimmune.
A prolific author for peer-reviewed publications in his field, Dr. Sheppard continues to support several local charity organizations. He was drawn to his field in his youth due to his personal experiences with immunology in his formative years, as he had to travel alongside his father to a number of tropical locations that required various immunizations. Looking toward the future, Dr. Sheppard hopes to witness his graduate students obtain their doctorates while remaining engaged as published writer and researcher.
