Christine Thomas Traigis, MM, Band Director at Alcoa Middle School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.

With 20 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Traigis has excelled as the band director for Alcoa City Schools since 2010. In addition to this appointment, she has performed as a clarinetist in the Air National Guard Band of the South as part of her enlistment in the U.S. Air Force since 2021. She previously served as a band director for the Episcopal School of Knoxville between 2010 and 2011. Moreover, Ms. Traigis has found success as a private clarinet instructor since 2002, during which time she has witnessed several of her students advance to join the Tennessee All-State Band.

Ms. Traigis began her musical training in her childhood with Kindermusik before refining her skills through piano lessons and clarinet lessons throughout her formative years. She subsequently pursued a higher education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, from which she earned a Bachelor of Music in 2004. She concluded her studies at the University of Georgia in 2006, graduating with a Master of Music in clarinet performance. Following these accomplishments, Ms. Traigis obtained her black belt in Kenpo Karate in 2021, for which she is currently training to become an instructor.

Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Traigis has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her primary professional circles. Since 2013, she has been active as the concertmaster for the Tennessee Wind Symphony, with which she has been highlighted as a featured soloist. Over the years, she has also demonstrated her musical talents through performances at such venues as the Midwest Clinic, TMEA, Carnegie Hall and GMEA. Ms. Traigis is likewise affiliated with the East Tennessee School Band & Orchestra Association, the Tennessee Secondary Schools Band Directors Association, the Tennessee Music Education Association and the National Association for Music Education.

Fostering a lifelong passion for music, Ms. Traigis has greatly enjoyed he opportunity to teach prospective musicians on a one-on-one basis. Among the many highlights of her career, she is incredibly proud of having performed in Carnegie Hall with two separate groups. Furthermore, she fondly recalls her impressive accomplishments in martial arts. Looking toward the future, Ms. Traigis hopes to organize music festivals for her middle school students while continuing to influencing the children that come into her classroom and lessons.
