With 35 years of experience to his credit, Mr. West has excelled as a mathematics instructor with the Cocke County School District in Tennessee since 2002. Prior to accepting this position, he began his career as a mathematics instructor in Rhea County, Tennessee between 1987 and 2002. In 2021, he was active as a member and a chair of a committee within the National Honor Society. Before embarking upon his professional path, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and health at the University of Tennessee in 1987. Mr. West continued his academic efforts at the aforementioned university with a Master of Education in exercise science in 1998 before concluding his formal studies at Lincoln Memorial University, from which he graduated with an education specialist degree.
In addition to his primary endeavors within his field, Mr. West has found much success as a wrestling coach, having founded the wrestling program in the Cocke County School District in 2004. As a testament to his stellar professional efforts, he was recognized by his peers as the Coach of the Year in Wrestling in 2012. Attributing his success to his strong religious background and exceptional communication skills, he was greatly inspired by his parents, who instill within him a strong work ethic as well as principles that taught him to pursue a career for which he is passionate. Among the many highlights of his career, he is incredibly proud to receive praise from former students, many of whom considered him the best mathematics teacher they had ever encountered. Looking toward the future, Mr. West is contemplating earning his doctorate while continuing to teach as well as consult and mentor the next generation of mathematics educators.
