With almost two decades of experience to her credit, Dr. Montoya is a rising expert in the field of bilingual education. Since 2020, she has excelled as an instructional coach at Evanston/Skokie School District 65 in Evanston, Illinois, where she serves as a reading specialist and a teacher of English as a second language. In addition, she has also served as an adjunct professor at Olivet Nazarene University since 2008. Prior to her current appointments, Dr. Montoya operated as a district bi-literary coach for Community School District 99 from 2018 to 2020, a bilingual reading resource teacher at Round Lake Area Schools Community Unit School District #116 from 2014 to 2016, and as a teacher in Waukegan Community Unit School District #60 between 2012 and 2014. She originally began her career in 2003, working as a teacher at Mundelein Elementary School District 75 until 2011.

Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Montoya cultivated her own education, earning a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education at Roosevelt University in 2003. She subsequently received a Master of Arts in curriculum and instruction from Concordia University Chicago in 2005 and a Master of Arts in Spanish language and instruction from National Louis University in 2006. In 2021, she achieved a Doctor of Education in educational leadership and administration at Walden University. In addition to her academic credentials, Dr. Montoya is also recognized as teacher in foreign language and bilingual education by the Illinois State Board of Education.

As part of her dedication in the field, Dr. Montoya remains affiliated with several industry-related organizations, including The International Society of Female Professionals and the National Education Association, the former of which recognized her as Female Representative of the Year in 2022. In addition, she has been named Teacher of the Year in 2005 and 2010. In addition to her performance in the field, Dr. Montoya is also well regarded as a civic-minded citizen. To wit, she regularly volunteers with Feed My Starving Children and St. Alphonsus Church.

Over the course of her vocational journey, Dr. Montoya’s goal has been to educate others on how to teach. To that end, she has focused her efforts on developing curriculum revolving around cultural and professional development for prospective teachers. In light of her accomplished career, she attributes much of her success to the challenges she has faced and overcome. Looking to the future, Dr. Montoya intends to continue growing as an educator, and she hopes to become more active as a leader in her field and community.
